General Questions

Why should a brand request access to the Fashion Insiders Hub in Maelle?

Maelle was established to simplify and reduce the cost of fashion business operations for fashion insiders.

The Maelle team has direct experience in the fashion industry and understands that it can be a costly and time-consuming process, often involving many mistakes before achieving success.

This can be a significant waste of resources for fashion brands. However, as experts in the industry, the Maelle team is confident that they can help their members reduce costs and achieve their goals more easily with their platform.

What is the final objective of success in Maelle?

Maelle is highly specialized and aims to help brands expand from a local to an international market. In the Business and Sales and Expansion sections, experts ensure that brands have the necessary guidance and information to make informed decisions about their expansion.

Brands that want to enter Maelle should know that Maelle specializes in four types of long-term expansion plans in three markets (MENA area, Europe, North America):

  1. Franchising development,
  2. Wholesale network development in the aforementioned markets,
  3. Flagship stores opening and management in the aforementioned markets,
  4. Search for investors (VCs, Angels, local strategic commercial partners, investment funds, and fashion groups for acquisitions) in strategic cities such as New York City, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh.

Maelle's goal is to ensure that the brand achieves at least one of the above forms of expansion.

Maelle's experts are aware that brands entering the Fashion Insiders Hub may not have the skills and credentials for immediate expansion abroad. Therefore, they take months or years to train brands to prepare them for the most successful implementation of one or more of the four expansion plans mentioned.

The free training in the Hub is provided through Courses in various relevant sections and allows brands to confirm, discredit, or modify their ideas and beliefs about the markets they want to open up commercially.

In addition, more services and tools are available to help the brand prepare for expansion abroad, including Mentorship Programs and Strategy Projects. Please refer to the relevant sections on these two services within this F.A.Q.

Is there a direct exchange with the platform’s experts for my specific questions?

At Maelle, brands have the opportunity to directly engage with the relevant expert in their chosen section through two options:

  1. Mentorship Programs, which offer personalized paid consulting sessions. Please refer to the dedicated section on Mentorship Programs for more information.

  2. Strategy Projects, where the first consultation fee is deducted from the final project cost if it is approved and goes through.

In addition, member brands of the Fashion Insiders Hub can always request technical support through a specific form in their user dashboard under the Support section.

Can Maelle help brands with buyers and expansion?

Maelle offers additional services beyond the free access to the Fashion Insiders Hub for brands.

These services include Strategy Projects that involve collaboration and supervision from Maelle's experts in commercial aspects.

If a brand wants to understand and discuss issues related to multi-brand distribution and sales network expansion, they can book

  • a Mentorship Program with the expert in charge of the Sales and Expansion section,
  • and/or request assistance through a Strategy Project.

In the most common cases, Strategy Projects serve to initiate a more widespread distribution in the country itself or on the first continent of reference of the brans.

The markets in which Maelle operates are the MENA area (Middle East and North Africa), Europe, and North America (USA and Canada).

The first consultation of the Strategy Project is always deductible from the final project's cost if it goes through.

Strategy Projects related to Sales and Expansion may include various aspects such as:

  • Researching local and continental distribution channels,
  • Organizing logistics distribution and delivery timelines,
  • Legal assistance in drafting sales contracts (including consignment and resale agreements),
  • Managing and selling stock,
  • Supporting distribution goals across multi-brand sales networks and concept stores, participating in pop-up stores and Trade Fairs, and conducting private B2C sales.

Maelle's experts always recommend consulting all the free courses in the Fashion Insiders Hub and booking one or more Mentorship Programs before attempting to approach a Strategy Project, especially if advice is needed, and the ideas are not clear on how to proceed.

Can Maelle help brands with production?

Maelle offers additional services beyond the free access to the Fashion Insiders Hub for brands.

These services include Strategy Projects that involve collaboration and supervision from Maelle's experts production aspect.

PRODUCTION:

If a brand wants to re-evaluate, change, or relocate its production (prototyping, sampling, and industrial), they can book a Mentorship Program dedicated to the topic to clarify any doubts.

Alternatively, the brand can request a Strategy Project, with the first consultation always being deductible from the project's cost if it goes through. If the project aligns with the expert's availability and capacity, she/he can decide to help and support the brand in realizing the project. The price and timeline of Strategy Projects on Production may vary depending on factors such as the brand's location, material availability, required production capacity, and the presence of technical designers/pattern makers within the company.

Strategy Projects related to Production can involve various aspects, such as:

  • Finding and securing reliable suppliers and manufacturers
  • Providing assistance with selecting and ordering fabrics and materials
  • Performing quality checks on prototyping and sampling
  • Overseeing industrial production processes
  • Analyzing sizing and fit issues

Maelle's experts always recommend consulting all the free courses in the Fashion Insiders Hub and booking one or more Mentorship Programs before attempting to approach a Strategy Project, especially if advice is needed, and the ideas are not clear on how to proceed.

Do brands pay commissions for productions or sales to Maelle?

Each brand has its own individual agreements with Maelle, and the expert team may make certain decisions based on the potential they see in the brand.

Generally, Maelle takes a percentage that varies depending on the size of the deal, only in the following cases:

  1. if Maelle has managed or participated in a multi-brand sale on behalf of the brand, locally or internationally,
  2. if Maelle has managed or participated in the acquisition of the company by investment funds or fashion groups,
  3. if Maelle has found, managed, and/or contributed wholly or partially to the investment in the company by one or more investors of different entities (VCs, angels, or funds) or on an agreement with Startegic commercial partners,
  4. if Maelle has organized a promotional/commercial event or exhibition for the brand and has contributed to direct B2B or B2C sales.

It is possible that Maelle has commercial agreements with manufacturers and suppliers of materials and fabrics, but these agreements are only valid in the interest of the fashion brand and serve to facilitate the purchase and availability of textile and non-textile materials.

Can the expert check the execution of a brand?

The team of experts at Maelle is evaluating several ways to "monitor" the activity of the fashion brands that are members of the Fashion Insiders Hub. For now the most populars are the Mentorship Programs, paid consultations, where brands can express doubts, showcase projects they are working on, and obtain direct feedback from live experts.

The Fashion Insiders Hub

How does the Fashion Insiders Hub work?

Maelle is a comprehensive platform designed to provide fashion brands with expert guidance and support across all critical areas of their business - women's, men's, and children's clothing, footwear, and fashion accessories. When a company submits a request for access to the Fashion Insiders Hub via the online form, it is meticulously assessed by the discerning administrators of Maelle. The outcome of this review hinges on several key factors, including the company's current revenue, number of employees, years of commercial activity, distribution through single-brand and multi-brand channels, franchising, and potential for expansion.

Tailored to the company's responses and specific needs, the Fashion Insiders Hub showcases engaging content, such as courses, articles, reports, guidelines, and information, spanning an array of relevant topics, including branding, production, business, entrepreneurship, colors and trends, e-commerce, sales and sustainability.

How much it costs the Fashion Insiders Hub?

Access to the Hub is entirely cost-free, and in order to progress to the coveted Mentorship Program and earn their rightful place within the Hub, the brand must demonstrate a thorough understanding of all pertinent issues.

How long should a brand stay into the Fashion Insiders Hub?

There exist no pre-established time parameters, either minimum or maximum, for a brand's tenure within the Fashion Insiders Hub. The Maelle team and brand management share the ultimate goal of progressing towards the Mentorship Programs and securing a place within the International Fashion Brands Society. The brand must, therefore, devote a sufficient duration of time to the Hub to ensure comprehensive preparedness for the International Fashion Brands Society, adhering closely to the guidelines and directives imparted by the Maelle team. The specific length of time required for each brand to advance from the initial stage of the Hub may differ.

The Mentorship Programs

What are the Mentorship Programs?

Mentorship Programs are consultation programs that consist of multiple sessions focused on specific topics related to a specific theme. These programs are organized by experts in Maelle and cover essential themes such as:

  • Branding,
  • Communication,
  • Creative Direction,
  • Product Development,
  • Colors and Trends Forecasting,
  • E-commerce,
  • Entrepreneurship,
  • Business,
  • Sales, and Expansion.

The main aim of these programs is to provide fashion brands with knowledge, awareness, and clarification on the specific theme being discussed.

Strategy Projects

What are the Strategy Projects?

Maelle offers additional services beyond the free access to the Fashion Insiders Hub for brands.

These services include Strategy Projects that involve collaboration and supervision from Maelle's experts in all different sections.

Strategy Projects are ad hoc projects for the brand, and may involve one or more sections within Maelle, including: Branding, Communication, Creative Direction, Product Development, Colors and Trends Forecasting, E-commerce, Entrepreneurship, Business, Sales, and Expansion.

Strategy Projects are designed to develop one or more of the aforementioned sections within Maelle's company, and support the brand's long-term growth and expansion. Some of the most popular Strategy Projects include:

  • Branding: creation and development of a Brand Book - brand identity.
  • Creative Direction: design of a collection suitable for the target foreign market.
  • Communication: development of a social media campaign to support the launch or presentation of a collection; planning of a monthly and annual editorial calendar.
  • Sales and Expansion: development of a local sales network, with research on local distributors and buyers.
  • Entrepreneurship: teaching tactics for approaching suppliers, buyers, and third parties to maintain solid and consistent relationships over time.

Maelle's experts always recommend consulting all the free courses in the Fashion Insiders Hub and booking one or more Mentorship Programs before attempting to approach a Strategy Project, especially if advice is needed, and the ideas are not clear on how to proceed.

The International Fashion Brands Society

What is the International Fashion Brands Society?

The International Fashion Brands Society is a paid annual subscription exclusively for brands within the Fashion Insiders Hub.

Subscription to the International Fashion Brands Society is a means of belonging to Maelle's exclusive expansion network, aimed at keeping the brand informed of all the latest developments and expansion opportunities in the MENA area (Middle East and North Africa), Europe, and North American (USA and Canada) markets. Brands seeking to join the Society must meet certain credentials and have a predisposition to expansion. The consideration of these as valid for entry into the Society is at the discretion of the experts at Maelle.

A brand is recommended to apply for access to the IFBS when it is ready to undertake the following expansion projects:

  • Franchising development,
  • Wholesale sales network development in the aforementioned markets,
  • Flagship stores opening and management in the aforementioned markets,
  • search for investors (VCs, Angels, local strategic commercial partners, investment funds, and fashion groups for acquisitions) in strategic cities such as New York City, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh.

The consultations offered by Maelle's experts through the Mentorship Programs are a valuable tool for both parties (brands and experts) to understand whether these objectives are in line with the brand itself, achievable, and in what timelines and measures.

It is possible that the brand may not be ready for these expansion steps or may have some doubts about them. In this case, please refer to the "How does a brand know if it is eligible for the International Fashion Brands Society?" section within this F.A.Q. section.

What are the benefits to enter the International Fashion Brands Society?

There are numerous benefits for brands within the IFBS.

Before becoming a member of the Society, brands must present a growth and development plan to the experts at Maelle, which may be more or less defined (please visit the IFBS services section on this F.A.Q. page for more information).

Based on the plan presented by the brand, the experts work together to determine the brand's path within the Society, and establish short-term and long-term goals for expansion, growth, and communication.

Benefits:

  1. At least one private video call with Maelle's experts for alignment once a month (the selection of experts is based on the expansion plan the brand is currently working on);
  2. Colors and Trends forecasting insights relevant to their commercial area and product merchandising;
  3. Up-to-date reports on commercial and socio-cultural trends and activities (in the three markets Maelle operates);
  4. Agreements and collaborations led by Maelle with other relevant brands, industries, and valuable partners;
  5. Assistance and development of plans for all four sales and expansion objectives with professional experts in each of them: franchising development, wholesale network development, opening and management of flagship stores, and search for investors (VCs, Angels, local strategic commercial partners, investment funds, and fashion groups for acquisitions).

More benefits will be updated and added on a monthly based and listed here.
